Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is officially under congressional investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
The committee did not release information about the investigation, but there are at least two major complaints against her.
She is accused of receiving two “impermissible gifts” while attending the lavish Met Gala in New York City. AOC showed up at the highly exclusive event alongside many rich and famous celebrity elites.
Individual tickets to the event reportedly cost $30,000. Tables at the event start at $275,000.
As a congresswoman, AOC isn’t be allowed to accept gifted tickets with this value. Members of Congress must follow strict laws regarding campaign finance and receiving gifts.
Moreover, the outspoken socialist faced major criticism over her wardrobe decision. She hypocritically wore a designer dress that stated, “Tax The Rich.”

A complaint was filed at the Office of Congressional Ethics to “immediately open an investigation.”
The investigation should determine whether Ocasio-Cortez accepted an “impermissible gift” to attend the gala.
It will also investigate whether she violated any campaign finance laws.
The complaint was filed by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF), which is a conservative watchdog group.
Although Ocasio-Cortez described her attendance at the Met Gala as part of her official duties, the “receipt of the gift” must fall under either the widely attended event or charity event exemptions as defined by the House rules.
However, the event was not widely attended. The exclusive invitations are overseen by a for-profit company called Conde Nast.
The complaint argues that AOC’s invite fails on both exemptions and she should be held accountable.
