A baby was found on the railroad tracks after deputies were notified about something unusual in the area.

Emergency medical services responded and found the newborn male was deceased.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh is attempting to identify the child.

A report said, “Investigators believe, from their initial investigation and examination of the scene and the body, that the newborn was possibly at or very close to a full term.”

“These are some details we are hoping the Medical Examiner can provide us today.”

Investigators are intensely working to track down leads.
