The Poynter Institute, which operates PolitiFact, is reportedly using funds from left-leaning activists to pay journalists grants of $10,000 or more to write about topics such as “right-wing extremism,” “anti-transgender groups,” and the successes of Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

The program is funded by foundations with apparent political biases, and it guides journalists on specific topics, with some being paid for writing about them.

The program also includes classes on “transgender coverage,” “voting systems,” and “climate change,” with grants ranging from $10,000 to $15,000.

“Enrollees can apply for one of three reporting grants of $10,000-$15,000 to explore how the transgender debate has touched lives in their area,” the institute said.

The panelists and funders have apparent left-leaning and activist backgrounds, raising concerns about political bias in journalism.

Notably, one of the funders, the Catena Foundation, is linked to a project that targeted mainstream center-right publications, including Reason Magazine and the New York Post, in an attempt to dissuade advertisers from working with them.
