President Biden claimed to have traveled over the now collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge connecting Baltimore to Maryland “many times” by train or car.

However, the bridge is exclusively for vehicle traffic and has never had railroad tracks.

“At about 1:30, a container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which I’ve been over many, many times commuting from the state of Delaware either by train or by car,” Biden said. “I’ve been to Baltimore Harbor many times,” he added.

When questioned, the White House clarified Biden was referring to driving over the bridge.

“The President was clearly describing driving over the bridge while commuting between Delaware and D.C.” a White House official said.

Early Tuesday, a cargo ship experiencing mechanical failure crashed into a pillar of the bridge, causing a massive section to collapse.

Thankfully, a mayday call was received in time for police to stop cars on the bridge.

Six bridge repair workers remain missing and presumed dead, as two others were rescued, after the ship’s collision caused the catastrophic bridge failure.
